Can optical drives just be switched out?

I recently ordered an HP dv2500, which comes with a DVD burner. However, recently I heard dell is releasing slot-loading optical drives, which I think are a lot cooler (yes...a superficial reason to want to change it). At any rate, is it possible for me to just pop out the original optical drive and pop in a slot loading optical drive? If so, anybody have any recommendations? If its not expensive, I'll really consider doing it.

    Thanks

I do not think that the dv2500 lets you switch out.

Plus, the pop out ones are a much safer investment.

The slot loading can have problems as they get older (or so I have heard, I guess that I could be wrong).
