My old Acer laptop uses pc2700 DDR. I'm thinking of upgrading it. Given pc4200 sodimm is actually cheaper than pc2700 and seems they have the same 200 pin modules. Will pc4200 work for my old laptop? I don't expect to mix the 2 types, but if use pc4200 only, will it work? I know pc4200 runs at 533MHz while pc2700 runs on 333MHz.
Thanks,

<strike>Yes, it will work. The PC4200 will simply run at a slower speed.</strike>

Isn't PC 4200 DDR2 instead? Would that fit?

DDR2 memory will not work in place of DDR memory. PC2700 is DDR.

All PC4200/4300 is DDR2 all PC2700 is DDR PC3200 can be either and DDR2 and DDR are not compatable also they have slots in different places so phyisically won't fit in the same slot. If PC3200 DDR 400 is cheaper that will work in place of PC2700 will just downclock.
Edit: Slow typer! -
