I think a "dead" pixel is one which never lights up, so it stays black all the time. I have one which took me a month to notice because I thought it was a speck of dust. See the attached picture (the offending pixel is the black mark halfway below the "o" and the bottom of the photo). This is a 1680 x 1050 display so in reality it is quite small.

A "stuck" pixel is one which stays the same colour all the time. This can be more obvious and visually annoying. For example, a bright red spot on a black background.

    Got a picture of it?

A normal LCD wouldn't have that many dead pixels unless there was a large amount of impact. It wouldn't even pass Q.C. heh.

    I have a little utility called DEADPIX.EXE (248kb).*
You run it and it cycles through the colors so you can easily spot if you have one.

Mfrs don't consider a screen "defective" unless it has several (it varies, 4-9?), but you can return it if it's new and try again. (I returned my first LCD monitor in 2002 because it had one.)

*I don't think I can send a file like that, but you could search for it or something similar.

A perennial favourite application for checking LCD displays is Dead Pixel Buddy.

Take a picture of it and post it here so we can have a look.
If it does have that many then you can send it back to get it replaced.

It's very unlikely that a laptop screen of any kind would ship with that serious a problem, but it's always possible. I do know that there was a problem with the early BIOS revisions of the A8Js that would make the screen appear very grainy, which may look somewhat like dead pixels. You could try updating to v2.10.
