I have a HP pavilion dv1000 notebook. I was wondering if I could either switch out the current celeron m 1.6 ghz for a 2 ghz or higher or also switch it out for a preffered centrino chip???

can it be done and if so....How?? Thanks.

In theory it should work, as it is available with a Pentium M processor, but I have not heard of this upgrade on a dv1000 yet. Be aware though that it will void your warranty. You will probably have to flash your bios if it is possible. There is no centrino chip, that refers to a intel motherboard, wi-fi card and pentium m processor combined.

Yes, It can be done. Are you asking how to do it? Follow the service guide under Removal and Replacement Procedure -5.8 Processor.

One thing I noticed is that a 533fsb is not supported in this model meaning that you need to make sure you chose a Celeron M or Pentium M with a 400MHz fsb. The two motherboards used in this pc are 367799-001 (Pentium M board) using the 855GME chipset and the 367800-001 (Celeron M board) using the 852GM Chipset. Both are capable of supporting a Pentium M @ 400MHz, with the main difference being the "Pentium Board" supporting DDR-333.

You may or may not need to flash your bios; probably not though.
