Hello, i was questionning myself about installing an OS, even games why not, on an external HDD, i just wanted to know if it was possible.

Yes, if it appears to the BIOS as another hard drive. If its a USB drive and requires some OS already, then no.
Don't expect it to plug into new hardware and just work. Windows will probably balk at a number of a hardware changes -

Its only worth it if you have a eSATA external as they can run the same speeds as an internal HD.
Your BIOS will need to be able to boot from this device, so if your BIOS cant detect or select it then no. -
I tried install win 7 /vista on my ext hdd and it won't let me
it says u cant install win on this partition .. bla blaa
