1)Can you raid your notebook with 2x32GB SSD HDD to make your notebook even faster?
2) 1)Can you raid your desktop with 2x32GB SSD HDD to make your desktop PC even faster?
3) So I was wondering why dont they RAID 0 notebooks ?
4) would it be the same like with a normal HDD. ? does SDD have jumpers?
-
yes, you are RAID-0 notebook SSD's.
a number of notebooks have done it.
if the notebook supports multiple HDDs and the system supports RAID (through chipset), then yes you can do it.
I have been using RAID in my notebook for over 3 years now. -
What laptop do you have? some have dual internal HDD slots.
1. Yes, if there are slots.
2. Yes
3. Dont quite under the question.
But if one disk in a RAID 0 fails, all data will be lost.
Also power usage is much higher.
4. Yes, they are just like normal HDD, same size and connectors. -
But yes if it will be more noisy with RAID 0, then i would stick with 1 SSD instead.
Well I will only be running Windows XP on RAID. Data will be stored mostely in an external USB HDD that I plug in when I need more space.
3) MY bad, first post edited. -
notebook HDDs are not loud.. or even noticeable.
so there really is no discernible HDD noise.
SSDs are nice and fast, but way overpriced for what you get -
My bro has a Dell notebook inspiron With [5400rpm 320GB HDD] & [T2300 intel 2 cores] & its really loud. so if they sell T9000 & P8000 processors how freakin loud are they?
Well anyway ty for the info. It seems lenovo sells some with DDR3 & SSD notebooks.
Do they have RAID 0 support?, those Think pads ?
Guess ill wait a year. maybe they will get cheaper. -

T9600 at 2.80GHz, silent when surfing... -
Well, mine are larger than the fast 32G's you're talking about - but, yeah, they're quiet and fast, and seem to work well. (specs in sig)

Yes, you can "RAID" laptops and desktop together by using vmware. Combine all of your computer into one rendering farm. LOL
Whether you're able to have hardware RAID0 on a laptop is mainly dependant on the manufacturer's bios. Almost every laptop's chipset support RAID now. I guess the manufacturers are too lazy to integrate this feature into the bios or doesn't want newbs to access this feature. -
I asked lenovo support, this is what they told me:
the Question is, how do you know if SDD is fast or slow? Are there really Slow SSD`s?
EDIT: I`m talking about SSD`s!
-
The difference between one SSD and another is barely noticeable.
Relatively speaking, all SSD's are fast. There are certain tasks and benchmarks where you can look at the data and see the difference.
One thing to look at though is what controller the SSD uses. Jmicron controllers have been known to have issues. -
The W700 has hardware RAID
I would like to see them prove it. I can guarantee it doesn't.
The W700 has an Intel software raid controller. So at most you will see a 10% boost in harddrive performance by going into RAID 0

BTW... there're tonnes of awefully slow and cheap SSDs. E.g. the ones on acer aspire one netbook. Average read/write <5MB/s. Average read/write for hdd in the same laptop 45MB/s. HDD is about 9x faster than the SSD in terms of throughput. Many people have horrible experience on those kind of SSDs.
Can you RAID a notebook
