Can you compare these processors for me (trying to avoid Dell rip-off)

Hi everyone! I would appreciate your advice sooooo much. I have been getting the runaround from Dell for a while now and I am very leery of them. Long story short, after my new laptop died FIVE times, they finally agreed to replace it. Unfortunately the laptop I purchased in January (XPS M1330) does not exist anymore, so they sent me a similar model (XPS Studio M1340.) Despite telling me the new one had 6GB of RAM like me old one (and the service tag online even says 6 GB), they shipped it with 4 GB. I have busted them on that and they are sending me the correct memory.

The other issue is the CPU. From what I can tell, the one they sent me is better/worse than my old one. I am not up on all the tech stuff when it comes to processors, however. I want to know if I should insist they upgrade what they sent me (they insist it's better than my old one, but they also insisted I had 6 GB of RAM, so...)

Here is a link. In column (1) is my old processor, column (2) is what they sent me, and column (3) is the closest thing I can find to my old processor that they currently offer. I was going to insist they give me the T9400, but I'm not so sure.

So, in your opinions, is what they sent me better or worse than what I had before? Is (3) better than (2)? (I will add that I am not concerned with battery life as I always keep my laptop plugged in.)

Thank you SO MUCH for any advice you can offer! :D

Go for a P9400/P9500 if you really want, but even if you 'only' have the P8600, you probably won't notice the difference.

The P9400 doesn't exist, I assume you meant the T9400. You should get at least the T9400, for their mistakes, see if you can get a P9500 or even higher (P9600 or T9600) because they are short changing you for their mistakes.

    I mistakenly meant the SP9400 (which isn't a socket processor); I really wouldn't want to see a 35W processor in 13" notebook.

Thank you so very much for your feedback! I feel so suspicious of them because of the RAM thing (and the months of crap they put me through to even get a replacement machine) so I really appreciate someone else backing me up. TYTYTY!!

As long as you sound reasonable, they should be cooperative. If they aren't ask for someone higher up (manager). I know it can be frustrating...

Unfortunately being reasonable got me nowhere for a long time. It has taken getting irate with a manager to finally get me the new system, after 3 months of banging my head against a wall. They replaced my hard drive 4 times before acknowledging it might not be the hard drive that was the problem! The fifth time they replaced the hard drive and motherboard and it died again. It has been a ridiculous and infuriating saga, to say the least. Them trying to scam me with the replacement was the last straw, which is why I will not let them get away with sticking me with an inferior system.

Honestly, I think their method is to get you to the point where you just give up. I can't believe how far this company (which I used to recommend wholeheartedly) has fallen. :(

If they've given you that much grief, definitely don't settle for anything less than at least a 100% equal replacement.

But yeah, Dell's fallen far in the past 10 years. If today's selection of 13" laptops was available back in 2007, I'd definitely have gone with another brand.

If it doesn't work out, try getting in contact with one of their executive customer relations people. Almost everyone that's spoken to one has had things work out in their favor.

According to Dells xps13 configurator the next best is the p8800 but maybe you could argue that your old processor had 6mb l2 cache and you need it for some applications so they should give you a processor with 6mb l2 cache. That would be the p9600.

Wow, didn't even notice that! Wonder why the P9700 is $50 cheaper than P9600? P9600 is 25w and p9700 is 28w--not much difference there but usually want to go with power efficiency if otherwise equal or there abouts.

Good idea to press dell. A guy like u had a similar prob and after mailing some dell executives he got extra stuff. I don't know the emails so posting this in the dell forum on this website would help.

The choices are a little different on the Canadian site, but anyway -- they are sending me the replacement memory and the P9600, and dispatching a tech to install it!! Thank you guys SO MUCH for giving me the ammunition to get what i deserved!! :D
