On ebay they are selling 2 hard drive caddy sizes- 9.5 and 12.7

My k53TA dvdrom is a 12.7mm. I am wondering what would happen if I tried to put in a 9.5mm. Would it be loose?

The hard drive I am putting in is only 9.5mm thick.

Use the 12.7mm caddy. The screw holes on the 9.5mm tall one might not match up with the ones on your notebook's chassis. The 12.7mm caddy will be able to take a 9.5mm tall hard drive no problem.
