Apologies in advance. I imagine this has been discussed frquently but I could not find the thread.
I just removed 2 ONE gig DDR2 RAM chips from a new tablet pc (to replace them with 2 TWO gig DDR2 RAM chips).
So now I have these 2 ONE gig DDR2 chips, and I am wondering if I can put them in my Dell D400 (to double the RAM in that system.) The Dell uses DDR RAM.
I KNOW that the Dell would downclock any faster RAM to the RAM speed intended to be in that system. I've read this much, but my question is whether the two DDR2 chips will even WORK in the DDR "slots"? Forget the speed difference, I'd still be doubling the amount of RAM, which is my goal.
Oh, I would be pairing two DDR2 (667, SODIMM), and not mixing one DDR with one DDR2. I have read that the latter could pose problems.)
CAN you replace DDR with DDR2?
Will it WORK? Will it harm my laptop? Will it harm the DDR2 RAM chips (due to different energy load, for example?)
Thanks in advance for any help.
Tom

No, the two standards are not inter-compatible.

Yup, just like these people said, it's not possible. They will not even fit in there, so don't even bother.

Thanks, everyone.
Disappointing but what I feared. I suppose I can sell the 2 One-gig ddr2s (667)... they were used < one week. Or find a friend who needs to upgrade from 512.
This forum is incredibly helpful. Thanks all.

There are people on this site looking to upgrade from 1GB to 2GB almost every day.
Can you replace 20 pin ddr ram with 20 pin ddr2
