My laptop has a Turion 64 ML-34 which runs at 1.8 Ghz. Is it possible to upgrade the processor, and if its possible is there something I can upgrade to that will have a noticeable impact on performance?

The laptop uses the ATI Xpress 200M chipset I think, and that includes the ATI X200M integrated graphics. Just incase the chipset effects upgrade options. Note: Not upgrading for gaming and I know you can not upgrade a graphics card in a laptop.

    Thanks,
    Dan

Yes, you can upgrade the processor. You can upograde it to a ML-44 (2.4 GHz). However, the upgrade will void your warranty, and it may difficult to do. Also, a processor upgrade will only result in a performance increase if you are completing some processor depending tasks, such as video editing or encoding.

For day to day processing, such as word processor, surfing the Internet and other smaller tasks, a processor upgrade will not increase speed at all. It may be better to invest the money in a faster hard disk or more RAM, both of which will provide a noticible speed increase.

Zero talks great sense! Also remember that a more powerful cpu will put out more heat so if you do upgrade you'll have to watch the temperatures.

In terms of performance increase for the money, try more ram or a faster hard disk. Hard disk comparisons can be found at Tom's hardware.
