Assuming it's 240pin DDR3 that uses the same voltage.

No, not at all. They are 100% incompatible. Laptop ram has less pins and is roughly half the length.
Read up on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SO-DIMM vs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DIMM -
Yeah...FYI, there is a good pic in the below thread of a computer hardware chart. Does a good job showing the differences between ram, hdds, cpus etc

I figured as much. Thanks for the link.

Read the below link and/or site (especially the guide pages) since it's a good if not very good resource on various laptop RAM topics.
Can I install desktop memory in my laptop?
Basically though, it's like the other two posters above have stated, you can't because the modules are different even though the type of memory is actually the same. -

With a dremel and some careful cutting it should fit, but if you power it on something bad is bound to happen.
-
I remembered of someone who was trying to fit AGP card into PCI-X or vice-versa with the dremel method.

Speaking of vice-versa. That is totally possible. (laptop ram in desktops)

No, its not at all. Laptop ram cannot be used in a desktop slot, period. Some ITX form factor motherboards use SODIMM memory, but they are few and far between. I'm typing this on one now though.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
If you lube the RAM it will fit! /sarcasm

There are adapters.
Maybe not exactly for desktop>laptop but yes using little modules in a bigger slot. I was pretty sure it was for ddr2 or ddr3 but I guess I cant be sure from memory. -
Seems your RAM is playing up, are you sure you havent put the wrong DIMM type in?
