Long story short: My Dell Inspiron 9300 died, but I was able to recover the hard drive. I plugged it into an enclosure (NexStar 3) and into the usb ports on a computer at my office. The drive and file structure show up perfectly.

It seems that I can access all files EXCEPT those in the "Documents and Settings" \ (My username) folder.

Most of the files that I would want to recover were in My Documents, so I'm not sure how I would go about getting them.

    The error I get is:
F:\Documents and Settings\JP is not accessible. Access is denied.

I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that I'm not "logged in", but in my situation, I'm not sure how to accomplish that, since the computer that the hard drive was in is now toast.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You'll need to take ownership of the JP folder.

Thanks for the quick reply Andy.
I guess I'll have to wait until my new Dell is delivered, since I can't log in as an administrator at work.
    Thanks again!!
