I have an HP d9500z notebook with Vista Ultimate OS. My Pioneer DVDRW-DR-K08HB ATA drive suddenly stopped reading cds. Devce manager shows a conflict "!" but the properties tab says i'ts working OK. Attempts to find new harware failed as did disable, restart, etc. Please advise wheter this needs repair or can be fixed by me.

at first glance it doesn't look like a hardware failure but rather like a broken driver.

Try this: delete the optical drive (the Pioneer DVDRW) from the Device Manager and restare your computer> This should force Windows to re-install the driver.
