    Hi there,

I'm a new member in NBR. Yesterday I bought 4GB (2 x 2GB) Kingston RAM KVR667D2S5/2G. I installed it by following the instruction. After installing the memory, I switch the power on, but notebook couldn't boot (like hang). I already try to swap over of each memory. couldn't help. I'm in trouble now.
Anyone can help me please? Many thanks

Well, I guess you learned not to sell off stuff before you make sure the replacement works... that's good at least. Do you either have some other spare RAM or another system you have access to that you could test your new RAM in?

Try it with only one RAM stick at a time. If that works update your computer bios then add both sticks.

Yeah I really regret it. I didn't think this will happen.
I think I don't have the same sort of RAM (not DDR2). I am using old toshiba pentium now.
    Thanks.

Your hp 6500 uses ddr2 memory, so your memory should work. You bought the correct PC5300 memory, so I do not see why it does not work.
Just so you know, a ddr sodimm will not fit into a ddr2 socket. You bought the right memory, your laptop is either not recognizing it because you need a bios upgrade, or the memory cards are corrupt and need to be replaced.

    Have you updated your BIOS?

this is usually the culprit for 4gb support

Im using the exact same ram setup (kingston 2x2gb) on my DV2500 which is just the 15.4" version of mine

Hi Flipfire, I haven't updated yet. But How I update the bios?
Because, as I press the power button, I can't see anything from the screen. (screen is dark)
    Thanks

Hopefully you sold the RAM to a friend, because you need to get it back ASAP. Without that RAM you can't boot to fix the problem, so it's either borrow the old RAM for a few hours or buy a 512mb/1gb stick.

You shouldnt have sold your RAM just yet. You actually need this to send your notebook in for a warranty repairs if needed later on. HP wont touch your notebook unless all the factory parts are in.

But anyway, try doing the following:

    1) Take out the battery pack and AC power

    2) Hold the power button for 30 seconds or more to clear the CMOS settings

    3) Insert one 2gb stick into the first RAM slot

    4) Now only plug in the AC power and try starting up again

If this doesnt work then your gonna need your old ram so you can boot into windows and update your BIOS.

Sorry, I think I need you step by step for this. I don't have any experience with the bios.
After I start up, what should I do? press F10 after press power button?
    Thanks

You cant update the BIOS if your computer wont boot up.

Just follow the instructions that i posted above and hopefully it works. Its a simple set of steps.

I have followed your instruction. But the computer still won't boot up.
Doesn't work. Yeah, I shouldn't have to sell the old one.
    Thanks
