My computer can't detect its fan. I was trying to change the fan speed by running speedfan, and it turns out that speedfan can't detect the fan at all.

    It's a sager np2096

CPU-Z doesn't detect the fan either. Does anyone know why?

unfortunately, that is the fate of most laptops. Most applications ,like speedfan. cannot detect fans in notebook computers. I don't think that they were made to be used in notebook motherboard but for solely desktops.

I would hope so. I'm going to call Sager tomorrow to ask them if there's a way to detect/change fan speed.

I tried going into the BIOS and there were only two options that I could highlight. What's up with that? Why is Phoenix Bios so limited?

I just called Sager and the guy on the phone said there's no software or anything that can detect the fan speed.

maybe he doesn't know enough about sager laptops?

The higher end Clevo lineup had an option to max out the fan-full rpms(Fn + F2)....I don't think Sager had anything to do with that.

Your Sager is a rebranded Compal, so like most laptops, there isn't any fan control software. What is really sad is that my 5/6year old Dell D410 has fan control software...I guess consumers wanted pretty screens/notebooks over functionality

What you can see trumps what you can't when it comes to the 90% of people who don't really care about another other than Facebook and web chatting with grandma ;)

Which can easily be done with "ancient" notebooks with any quality screen(latest and greatest isn't needed)...thankfully NBR has done its share in introducing people to alternatives.

    BTW, grandma only tweets :p
Seriously, the elderly contain a wealth of information and some great stories.

you'd think that they would add something like a fan control or something on a gaming laptop

A lot of laptop's ACPI microprocessor can be controlled. People just need to write software for specific laptops.

E.g. for acer aspire one, people wrote fan control software for it. aa1fancontrol and a1ctl
