    Hello,
I was doing a factory reinstall and it got turned off. When I booted up the laptop I had , this pc needs to be repaired screen,,hit f8 or enter to retry. Well I've hit those keys a billion times. Okay so then I said I'll just try the reinstall again, but I can't get into bios to change the boot order. Tried f2, f8 and f12 , to many times to count.

    Here is what I've done.....

Took out hard drive, still couldn't get into bios.
Tried switching ram sticks in different slots.
    Took out bios battery.
Tried other combos of ,f keys,, but I know those are the ones, cause I have done a factory reinstall on this laptop before.
And I even did those things a billion times too.

I don't know what happened or what else to try.

    Dell inspiron 5720
    Windows 8
Error code Oxc0000225, which at this point doesn't even matter.

    Thanks for any help.

Hold down the enter BIOS key as soon as the machine is turned on. Only way I can get into my Clevo BIOS other than setting the restart settings in Windows to throw me into EFI

MerriP, create a bootable DOS flash disk and put cmospwd there. Remove all other bootable media i.e. HDD, SSD, etc. Boot from the flash disk and run cmospwd.exe -k . You should be able to enter the BIOS upon next boot.

    Hi Starlight5,

DOS, meaning Disk Operating System? And would I get the file from the Dell website?

TBH, it may but no guaranty. problem here is the bios password too so the new HDD may get you no where on that issue.

    Hi Tan

That is what I afraid of. Sighs.

The laptop was only 2.5 years old. Double sigh!

MerriP, just get to some other machine and make a dos-bootable flash disk using Rufus or similar software, and put cmospwd on it. It should work.

    Hi Starlight5,,,,

Not to sound to dumb but I never had a password, so it will still get me to the bios?

I was thinking of getting a inexpensive laptop ,,but I'm so overwhelmed with all the choices lol

MerriP, yes, it's the last resort. In its attempts to kill BIOS password it can, and often does, resolve other BIOS problems, which is the case in your situation. This little program saved me when nothing else worked couple of times, including a similar situation when I was unable to access BIOS at all.

Just Googling your system brings up a few threads where people cannot access their BIOS.

Can you not access the BIOS? Or can you access it but not change anything?

Try booting from a Windows install disk in the optical drive. Usually this are put first in the boot order - that should allow you to repair your install. You can legitimately download an ISO file of an install disk and burn it to a DVD if you don't have one. (For Windows 8 onwards: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media)

    Hi Benni,,

Yes I was reading those also. Got to love Dell. NOT!! Lol

Nope I can't even get into bios at all. And the funny part is I have the disks. When I read the threads about reinstalling the people don't have the disks, but can get into bios... I am jealous. Lol

    Thanks.
