    Hello,

I have a "Core 2 duo 2.20ghz T7500" PC which supports multiprocessing. But when I enable "Multi Processing" in BIOS I can't install Windows (7/Vista both). When its enabled I get to the Windows setup screen but suddenly it freezes and I have to restart the PC.

I have Windows 7 installed at the moment and it boots up when Multi Processing is enabled but after 20-30 minutes I suddenly get a blue screen and the PC restarts.

My PC came with Vista Home Basic and multi processing was disabled by default. I have to enable it now because Black Ops requires 2 cores.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks

Did you update your BIOS to the latest version? Sometimes you have to have Windows installed and run a .exe to flash it which is backwards. Good luck

Is this an issue with the HD you're using maybe?

What HD are you installing to?

Did you install the current OS yourself? My guess is that if you did, you did not install the actual chipset drivers that belong to your PC...I bet you some generic windows driver is running...is this the case?

If so: open device manager and see if you see any missing drivers (yellow signs). If you are missing some, find the device/hardware ID for the device (under the details tab of the properties menu). PM or post the device ID's you have and I'll get you some drivers.

If all devices are installed, try updating your chipset drivers (check your manufacturer's website).

I have seen this exact symptom before (when playing source games, my buddies notebook would BSOD unless we had only 1 core enabled). Fixed it by doing what was described above.

For further diagnosis, try running the game with affinity set to 1 CPU (right click the game process in task manager to set affinity). If the PC doesnt crash, it is definitely a core issue.

Thanks to all of you for your help.

@Tsunade: I have updated my BIOS.

@tilleroftheearth: The issue is caused by Multi Processing. Anyways, I am suing a Fujitsu MX2250BT 250GB SATA.

@classic77: These drivers are not installed:

    None of them are important.

I have updated my chipset drivers already. I am going to try running the game on a single core. I'll let you know if it works.

    Thanks again.

Ya, those all seem unimportant...do you get the same blue screen every time? If you dont have time to read it, as you boot the OS, hit F8 and select "disable automatic restart on system failure". This will cause the BSOD to stay up so you can read it..

One thing I forgot to mention. On my Windows 7 it boots up with both the cores enabled (confirmed via Task manager) but I can't find "ACPI Multiprocessor" in Device Manager. I have 2 options available "ACPI x86 PC" and "ACPI Advanced Configuration and Power...".

How can I manually add ACPI Multiprocessor to that list?

    Thanks

Taking all the above into account, I can only suggest using a different Windows install disk.

If this doesn't solve this issue - then your problem is hardware: the cpu or the chipset/motherboard.

    Do you still have warranty?

    Good luck.

I have used two different Windows 7 disks but no luck.

And I am out of warranty. My laptop is almost 3 years old.

You have windows installed but you stated you get a BSOD at some point. So a few questions.

1.) in msconfig are the mulitple cores enabled?
2.) What is the error recieved in the BSOD?
3.) have you checked the heat of the CPU?

TANWare, the main issue is that Win7 will not even install with multiple cores enabled.

The hardware seems to be the culprit here.

Hate to say it, but this seems the most probable conclusion at this point...

Very probably, why I ask about when you can have it running what are the temps doing. It may be under single core you can keep the heat under system critical, with both enabled maybe it is just too much.

The other options to include down the line of trouble shooting is the power brick is colapsing under load and since the CPU isn't getting the required voltage it BSOD's as well................

    Good points.

Does that still apply to when the OP is just installing windows too though?

Either way, that is a good test for the OP: what temps does the system display under single and multiprocessor load (just before it BSOD's).

There was an issue similar to this in the Sony subfora, with a VGN-Z. Something in the BIOS was corrupted, and every time the current version was re-flashed, nothing helped the issue. What ended up solving the issue, was downgrading to a older BIOS revision, possibly the BIOS that shipped with the notebook, and then re-flashing the new BIOS update over the old version. I know it sounds convoluted, but it seemed to have worked.

    Thanks everyone for your help.

How do you guys check temps of laptop?

@H.A.L. 9000: How can I downgrade my BIOS?
