So I just bought my first bottle of canned air to clean out my pc. I was using it on my keyboard for about 60sec and I noticed the can was getting extremely cold. I kept using it and it got so cold that a layer of frost formed around the can. It says not to shake or tilt etc...so I dunno if this is normal or what.

Also, how are you supposed to clean the inside of you laptop if you're not supposed to tilt the can? -_-. Pick the whole laptop up and hold it in the air?

you can tilt the can, the only reason they want you not to tilt it is because if you tilt it too far, liquid comes out and it freezes on contact, which causes frostbite. the companies just dont want to get sued for someone being childish.

Wrong, if you tilt it and the frost gets on your components, they may get damaged for obvious reasons. Also, the can is supposed to get cold, they say it on the side of the can and the more scientific guys around here will be able to explain it wordily to you, if it didn't, you should worry.

Yeah, that freezing effect is normal anytime you rapidly change a liquid into a gas(Happens on propane tanks also). Turning it upside down makes for great coolant, its good for freezing gum thats stuck in carpet, then digging it out.

Guys its an exothermic reaction, that is why it is getting cold. The can is not supposed to be shaken, because the petroleum based propellant will come out of the can. If you shake the can, some of the propellant will get above the compressed air, and will come out, which is not good for electronics, your skin and the environment.

As a side note, canned air is so very fun to play with on a boring work day. There's a reason I've been barred from ordering any more boxes of canned air.

GOSH I LOVE PLAYING AROUND WITH COMPRESSED AIR!!! I love freezing stuff, and spraying around to scare people, SO MUCH FUN!

If you tilt it, the liquid inside will come out, as a liquid, for a few moments and cause damage.

Playing around with gases and compressed gas containers is fun! Take a plastic lighter and throw it on the sidewalk really hard (away from yourself)and watch it burst, kinda cool lol.

As the pressure in the can decreases, the temperature also decreases. PV=nRT, where P=pressure, V=volume, n=amount of gas, R=constant dependent on units used, T=temperature

The ones I get at work, you have to screw a nozzle onto the can, and if you want to squirt the liquid out... just empty one half empty and cold to the point where you can't spray any more air out, unscrew the nozzle and the liquid shoots out like a water gun :)
