    Greetings,

I am about to change an current HDD to SSD. All has been done and... I have got a big problem.
When I slide the hard drive release latch into the unlock position nothing happens! The drive remain inside and does not pop out!

I have no idea how to remove it. My warranty has been expired.
I would be deeply thankful for a prompt piece of advice.

    Many thanks in advance.

Does gently pulling it (from the SATA data and power connectors) in the same plane work?

    Thank you for your response.
I have finally managed to pull it out. I have used a tiny screwdriver and pushed a plastic exterior cover of a bracket. It has detached itself of the bracket (bad attach, perhaps age?) and with the same tool I was able to remove the drive. It is quite bizarre cause the drive is an original one and one can say that is no any loose inside and it has to be forced to get it out.

I glued the piece of plastic and inserted a new SSD in a slot. As previously forced a bit the drive in bracket to move it in. Alas the same problem persists. The unlock-release latch does nothing.

Fortunately the disk is in and it seems to work well.
Thus the problem has been temporary resolved for now.
Though I cannot use the drive slot in an correct way. The drive is still blocked inside.

I have requested Dell an extension to my warranty expired. it is obviously a serious default of the laptop I have not noticed.

Any piece of advice of resolving this M6600 drive slot issue.
    Thank you in advance.

Glad you got it out. Not really worth extending that warranty, imo, for that issue alone though.

What are the spec's of that system? How long have you had it for your workflows (please specify)? How much is the extended warranty worth? How much longer do you expect to keep the system?

    Thanks for your sage advice.
I have got my M6600 since 2011. It is a quite good system:

    Win 7 Pro 64
Nvidia 1Gb (I am not certain, cannot check it right now - the laptop cannot start after changing Bios to AHCI -registry modified to 0)
    32 Gb Ram

I have not received a quote from Dell concerning warranty extension price.
I have no idea. for now its performance is quite satisfying.

As I mentioned a few lines above I cannot start the system with AHCI setting. After changing it in BIOS Windows starts system repair utility finished as usual with no solution.

Would you be so kind to suggest me a potential manoeuvre to solve it?

I have also a second drive installed (1tb).

    PS
Windows begins starting I can see an opening animation and suddenly I have a screen with options - Start Normally and System Repair....

    Now Windows is loading files...

Should it be any other option to adjust in BIOS or elsewhere?
How can I tell in BIOS which Internal HDD is a boot one-SSD - I would like to disable the second one?

The laptop boots in RAIS On mode. I do not need/want this mode to be applied.

Have you tried applying this fix in Windows before changing from RAID to AHCI in the BIOS?

    Greetings and thanks John,

Of course I had done it before I made changes into BIOS.

After several tries I think I have successfully managed to boot in AHCI..
As I mentioned I had two HDD internal disks listed in BIOS boot sequence.
One was a new SSD bootable and a second one- HDD for data use.

After unchecking the second HDD and several reboots Windows finally booted in AHCI.
I think the problem was the presence of two HDD listed in boot sequences...who knows?
