Just picked up a THERMALTAKE ST0005U hard drive docking station and place my western digital 1tb drive and for some reason I cant access the drive on both my machine windows 7 (notebook) and xp (desktop).

Under device manager on both system I do see the drive but for some reason I cant find it in my computer. When i first install the drive I get a message saying driver software installation WDC WD10001FALS-OOJ7B1 USB Device Ready to use. This dock does show up when I connect to my WD tv live but not on any of my computers.

Does the drive show up under disk management? Disk Management is located in Computer management(Administrative Tools-computer managment-quick way to get to it is Run->'diskmgmt.msc').

If the drive is new, it may need to be formatted/assigned a letter(for My computer to see it).

at first it did not show up on disk management. I went to the THERMALTAKE site and apparently there was a driver I had to download (if the drive did not show up in disk management.) After downloading the driver it did show up in disk management and it looks like I will need to format the drive in order for to work. Kinda suck cause I thought it was a simply plug and play. I now have to move my data off the drive and then format it. Bah

If the drive was already formatted and working it should not have to be re-formated again, that doesn't make sense. Make sure that the drive has a drive letter assigned to it.
