I had Msi gx640 from around 2 years, and before 3/4 months my Gpu (Ati 5850m) got burned/broken, i bought a new gpu from one of the members here (i tried contacting him, but he doesnt respond). He previously told me it will be in amd 6000 series, he wasnt clear which one exactly.
After installing the new GPU, i uninstalled the old drivers, and then the ATI catalyst couldnt find out the gpu hardware with its Auto detect tool, even in dxdiag it was written nothing.
I tried the latest ati catalyst (1mb thing) but it gave the same error as the auto detect tool.
So i went to device manager place and did the auto search online update to the gpu. and it found it and updated to an old version.
After that it was written as "AMD Radeon HD 6600A Series" everywhere. The chip type is "ATI display adapter (0x6750)". I though it is 6750, but it has gddr5 and this one has ddr3 ram.
After this i searched everywhere for the 6600A, got nothing, but found the full latest catalyst 12.3 package here, AMD Catalyst 12.2/3 (8.950.0 February 14) AMD Official WHQL - Guru3D.com Forums, i also found out that the mobility version had (AMD6750.1 = "AMD Radeon HD 6600A Series"), so i installed the mobility version.
Now everthing seems ok, the GPU temp is around 49'c on idle and reaches up to 60'c while playing fifa. There is this misterious Temp1 appeared that has temp of between 55-70'c changes quickly all the time.
I dont even know if those are the normal temps for this card, which is why i want to know about the vbios.
Maybe Vbios will make the fan kick more so the temp becomes even lower. anyone where can i find the vbios for my misterious gpu. thanks for reading this boring paragraph. Also there is no ATI Overdrive in Catalyst manager for this card, i wanted to know if i can overclock this gpu the safe way.

I think your vbios would have to be custom done for your machine and card. I know there were a couple guys in the MSI forum that used to muck around that stuff. Kosti and others that I can't remember right now.
Might want to try the MSI HQ forums, those guys tend to know their stuff about modding MSI vbios. -
ok, i will ask there, thanks.

I am worried about this ACPI Temperature, usually its around 54'c, it suddenly increases when the load increases, or while gaming, it increases to 70-75'c max, but today when i was playing fifa for more then 1 hr, it reached 88'c and stayed there until i closed the game.
What is this ACPI temperature anyway. The fan doesnt seem intrested in kicking in, its always on 37% when on load. -

Sorry man, I honestly don't know too much about these GPUs and haven't had time to test them thoroughly. :/ Thanks a lot for finding the drivers tho as that really helps me.
I am still willing to upload the other vBIOS but I don't know if that one has fan control either.
Did you ever get it working on your built in display? And... its gddr3, really? I was sure its gddr5.
I think a lot of cards don't have proper fan control. You may have to control the fan manually. There is a way to hack the EC and do this. Its somewhere in the gx640 owners thread.
The ACPI is cooled by a small thermal pad attached to the CPU heatpipe. Maybe your brother removed it by accident?
Also, the temp1 may just be the highest temp any component in your notebook is hitting. -
well, yes, i checked in multiple softwares, all say its ddr3. where exactly is that thermal pad, can you show me in the picture place, my bro put the thermal comp in all the places.
and which vbios you are talking about, do you have specific vbios for this card, still donno what this gpu name is. lol. -

Best way to check the type of ram is to read the code on the chips.
-
i know about the ram, even when i saw the the gpu, it had small black chips unlike the old 5850 which had big ones.
the catalyst center says, Memory Type : DDR3.
the speccy software says, Memory Type DDR3
the speedfan says Memory type is DDR3.
i think since multiple softwares says its ddr3, then its that.
i want to know which card is this, amd hd readon 6600A is ????. Also the vbios to decrease the idle temp by making fan to kick more. -

Here is how you can control the fan:

I'm sorry about the ddr3 BTW. My supplier does not have consistent stock! -
yea np, i will look into the force fan stuff.
-
cant understand anything about the force fan, what exactly should i modify and install. damn, its too complicated lol.
-
Also how do i overclock this card, there is no ati overdrive, gpuz and msi afterburner are not working. -
just ordered the arctic silver 5 paste.
anyone knows where i should put the paste to reduce this ACPI temperature.
Cant find my GPU name, and vbios for it
