Use a paper clip by bending it a straight as possible. Make sure it's not the plastic covered ones as that would be too thick. Insert the paper clip into the little hole somewhere on the DVD drive bezel (should be close to the eject button). The paper clip should go about half an inch deep and trigger the eject override mechanism.

No, not middle of the laptop. On the DVD drive, you should look very closely. All DVD drives have them, if not then it's a major fail on the notebook bezel design.

ugh.. M1530 has a slot loading drive. I'll try and find the right location for the force eject hole.

D3X said it that is the answer. It is a physical override and I have used on many occasions. Sometimes just because I was in a hurry. If you are still having trouble post back as maybe we can help locate better. But definitely on the bezel on the part that will eject. Ignore the rest of the computer.

    Edit: Opps! Slot load? Sorry!

Wow. Looks like there is no force eject on this drive. Major fail in my opinion.

So basically you are stuck. Try shutting down your system and mash on the eject button when you boot up (Dell logo). If not, try going into BIOS and hitting the eject.

Worst case scenario here is contact Dell repair, looks like your not the only one suffering from this design blunder.

Here is a link might help? Kind of old school? Link. Is it peeping it's head out at all? Also I don't have a slot loaded, is it modular?

Interesting find there with the floppy tweezer technique, although it may damage the drive if improperly handled.

No, the slot drive is not modular, infact, it's embedded much like the MBPs..

Look at the link it is not about modular.

Edit: Ignore I need to learn to read better. Sad kind of late in life unlikely to happen.

I've just looked at a Samsung slim slot loader and that has an emergency eject hole. It's about 1/4" to the right of the manual eject button.

Otherwise make a trip to the Dell support site and download the M1530's guide to part replacement. That will show you how to remove the optical drive. Then you'll need to take the top off the drive and retrieve the disc.

Slot loaders are nice, when they work, but tray loaders are much more reliable (and work with the mini CDs and DVDs).
