Merry X'mas, Folks
I just discovered that my notebook's cd-rom is unable to detect/read cds. I don't know what happened why it suddenly can't read/detect cds: like movies, audio cds, games, etc. I don't know if it's because of the fact that I haven't been using my notebook's cd-rom lately. I remember installing the driver though when I reformatted my notebook last year and tried a lot of cds on it and worked, but now not anymore. Do you know what seems to be the problem? Can I download a cd-rom driver for this notebook model of mine?
*My notebook's specs and models are indicated below as you can see in my signature.
Pls help me. Thanks in advance![]()

Moreover, when I downloaded and ran driver robot and driver detective, it was able to detect my cd drivers, namely: toshiba dvd-rom SD-R2512 and CyberDrv CW099D CD-R/RW USB Device. However, upon opening My Computer or inserting a CD in my CD drive, it cannot detect/read the CD. Can someone help me solve this problem?
Thanks in advance :'( -
i don't think that there is a driver for the CD-ROM... windows automatically uses a built in driver... u may be able to download a firmware update for the drive from ur laptop Manufacturer's support site... another thing which might work would be to uninstall your drive from device manager and then reboot... windows will automatically reinstall the driver and ur drive might work... hope it helps...

Try physically removing and reinserting the CD drive on the machine.

Does it spin up at all, and then not read it, or does it not even try to spin up? If it at least tries to spin up, then maybe your laser lens is dirty, and cleaning it might help.

my blu ray drive is doing the same, but it reads dvds fine, but only reads some bluray disks. just doesnt detect the disk. i think its a dirty lense but CD cleaner brushes would damage the surface of the bluray lense.
try a CD drive cleaner. -
That might also be a problem... i always forget to mention that

First clean it. Make sure you use the proper product. Slapping rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip and molesting the laser lens is NOT the proper way to clean it!
If that doesn't help, check to make sure DMA is enabled on the drive. Windows may disable if it, especially if it's an older IDE drive if you don't safely remove it.
Assuming your discs don't have scratches, you may try to see if there's a new firmware for the drive.
In your case, DL this and check the DMA settings:
