Hey guys. I recently upgraded my laptop to a T9600 CPU, and well, to further give me this sense of accomplishment I ordered a 2009 Centrino 2 sticker for my laptop (My old Centrino sticker is a bit withered already, and I find it a waste to just throw it out without a replacement whatsoever lol).

I just want to ask, my laptop does qualify for a Centrino 2 Badge, right? It says in the Wiki site that a Centrino 2 Platform is:

    - a PM/GM45 Chipset (I have PM45)
    - a 45nm CPU (C2D T9600)
    - a chipset supporting 1066Mhz FSB (well duh)

Those do verify a Centrino 2 platform, right? On a side note, I noticed a few articles talking of platforms wit vPro or something i.e. Core 2 Quad vPro (I saw some stickers).. Another question is, what's the difference between vPro and non-vPro?

    Thanks in advance everyone.

    do you have intel wifi?
If not, then I think you don't qualify :(

It is branded as Centrino 2 vPro when combined with built-in security and manageability features technologies.

Oh, forgot, I have Intel 5100AGN (it's just AGN, not ABGN, right?). Haha, even thinking of upgrading it to 5300 but I have doubts regarding its gains, plus it's a hassle adding a third antenna since mine only comes with two.

What features are those? Like, programs?

If you have the 45 chipset, Intel Penryn C2D processor, and Intel 5100 WiFi, then you're good to go. Centrino 2 it is. :)

    its obselete anyway
centrino 2 no longer refers to platform
intel is 'relocating' the centrino 2 designation to refer to wireless technology alone
(ie presumably, the successor to the 5300 will bear the centrino brand name)

    • Intel WiFi Link 1000 BGN mini-PCIe adapter

Well, I know its only a stupid dumb sticker. But I actually care. I was asking these questions since I also want to know, and if people don't have anything to say OT, i.e. replying on what the OP is asking, it'd be better to just not post at all. I mean, all I expected from this thread was an answer or two, and none of them something as useless as "stupid name", "obsolete" and whatnot. Some people could actually only afford these obsolete things, and most can't even afford any.

Mastershroom and moral hazard, thank you for the informative replies. At least the thread was answered sufficiently.

you asked what the definition of centrino was. You were given an answer as to what centrino was and then further given an answer of what centrino will be. If you cannot give other posters who have put forth the effort to research something you were too lazy to,respect, then perhaps I suggest you find another forum to post on or go learn to use google yourself.

No personal attacks please. He might have quoted you by mistake but the first two posts he quoted truly did not add anything to the discussion. And doesn't either.

I asked what the description of the Centrino platform IS, not what it will be, since I know that and I'm not that narrow a reader to not know how the tech trend changes. I just wanted to clarify about its components and of course I have searched it already, so I do hope people would stop assuming things that they don't know, especially if they still aren't established in whatever forums they are in right now.

Mods, the question was already answered, I wish the thread to be closed. Thanks.

Why do people think that just because they started a thread they own it and can set the rules?

It was unnecissary to insult him for wanting to accuratly badge his lappy. It's his thing, I'm sure you all do things he would find stupid too. I bet one of those stupid things is trolling forums.

So anyway, I hope you like your accurate badging. I can appreciate the desire to do it "right".

I'm with the OP. And I agree with sirmetman, we all sometime do things which might seem stupid but still we do and enjoy it.

My self has re-badged my Studio 17 lappy the right way by replacing the Core 2 Duo sticker with Centrino sticker (mine not qualified for the Centrino 2 logo) since now it is no longer using Dell Wireless adapter but Intel WiFi Link series instead, and it has the other Centrino requirements. I even had done it twice, first with the purple 2008 portrait oriented Centrino logo and now with the 2009 lanscape oriented Centrino logo. :)

Because some just wouldn't follow forum rules, or not even bother to read them, no matter how many times it's hammered into their head.

I wouldn't snap like this, but because this thread and ultimately NBR is a place where people go and seek for answers to their questions I get pissed every time someone disses a poster for asking/doing/saying/thinking a dumb/nonsense/stupid question. The forums would be a lost cause if everyone here bashes people everytime they ask these "nonsense" questions, even if they do make sense.

Going back to topic, I just purchased a 2009 Centrino 2 badge and a 2009 Core 2 Duo badge. And I just removed my old Centrino 2008 badge.

PS I should've waited to learn that Everest also displays what platform your laptop/computer has in it, at least the program wouldn't bash around like this.

I live close to Redmond and don't always remember to wear protective aluminum foil over my head to thwart the brain melting waves coming out of the Microsoft campus. I have some questions and I don't want them to know. Is it safe on this thread ?

    1.) I have a notebook computer. Do I need a "lappy" too ?

2.) I scraped all the decals off. Does this void the warranty ?

    Thank you.
