OK I just got my Dell 1720 laptop but the resolution only goes up to 1440x600 which isnt bad but I work with autocad alot and I need a better resolution very badly. I need to push it to 1600×1024 or 1920 x 1200 but that may be pushing it.

I have a Geforce 8600m GT video card I know I can push for more resolution also I have already gotten the new drivers and noting.

I have tried powerstrip and noting, my monitor (LCD) is labeled as PNP-MONITOR

From everything I read there are ways to hack the driver files but I cant find anything detailed enough to do this.

Someone please help me out im at my wits end.

What display did you choose for your 1720? If you got the standard WXGA+, then 1440x900 will be the max you can have it set at without using an external display. If you got the upgraded WUXGA, you should be able to set the resolution in either the Vista control panel, or the NVidia control panel.

You meant 1440X900 yes? If you did then there is a box in "Display Properties" where you can show all resolutions.

i got the 1440x900 but I know I can get it higher WXGA+ can go up tp 1600×1024 thats all I want. I called dell to see f I could return the laptop they said yeah but I would be losing any promotion that I got with it and thats over $600 i would lose if I returned it.

There has to be a way to hack something, I mean come on I have seen some awesome stuff done before. Like I said I read some stuff somewhere it wasnt detailed.

Are you confirming it was a typo? 1440X600? If yes then follow my advice B/4. you can set it higher but you will loose part of the screen. Get an external monitor it will display at higher resolution than laptop if it has it!!!!

Lol, your monitor is made up of 1440 dots wide, and 900 dots vertical. Not even a 1337 HaX0r could add dots to your screen with a software program. The only way is to connect your laptop to an external monitor with a resolution of 1680x1050 or better if you want a better resolution.

As mentioned, if your screen is WXGA+ 1440x900, then the maximum it can go is indeed 1440x900. It can, however, output more then that via video output.

unless hes talking about that crazy function ive seen on some laptops where you can set the resolution to like 1600 x 1200 but you can't see all of the screen at once so you scroll around like in an RTS game. It seems like the dumbest thing ever to me but maybe its what he wants.

You have to realize that each monitor has a max resolution. Yours is 1440*900. That's it, no more. Nothing short of physically changing the monitor to a higher res one will work.

There are no hax, because it's physically being constricted to that resolution, this has nothing to do with software.
