My laptop is an HP Pavilion zv6000 and it is 4 years old. I only have one Core, I wanted to know if it will be possible to change it out into a dual core processor. Would it be beneficial?

And on the side, is it possible to change my fan? Mine is too loud and not working as it should.

    Thanks.

It depends on whether or not your laptop has the Mobile Athlon 64 on Socket 754, or the desktop Athlon 64 on Socket 939. If it's the former, no dice. If it's the latter, you could theoretically move to an Athlon 64 X2 BUT it probably won't work due to BIOS compatibility and increased thermal output.

As for the fan, you most certainly can change the fan. Visit the HP parts store online and look up the fan bit (and maybe a disassembly guide, too).

If you're looking for a performance boost, upgrading to a faster hard drive is probably a better option. It along with a clean install will probably give a bigger performance increase than upgrading the CPU.

I remember reading a while back that this system supports the AMD FX-55, which is the fastest single core processor for your laptop. This may be expensive,, so try looking for the FX-51 and FX-53

Try looking for online dealers with the FX-51 and FX-53, you can usually get a good bargain buying a 2nd hand component..
