    Hello guys,

    I recently bought an Acer Aspire V5. It's a Core i5 4200U, 8 GB, R7 M265 and 1TB HDD. I'd like to change to a SSD. But I've never had a SSD storage, it's means, I don't have much knowledge about it.

I remove screws and I can see the HDD and memory. Is it possible change to a SSD? Until I know this laptop has an easy access to upgrade. (because I usually upgraded my desktop, but never a laptop)

If yes, what do you think about these?

OBS: I need to buy the SSD in a local store.

You'll most likely want a larger drive if you only have space for one. Do yourself a favor and search the forum for OP'ing (over provisioning), and read up on that as well.

Agreed with alexhawker, a larger drive if possible.

It should be a simple swap SSD for HDD. Clean install also highly recommended.

Your Staples/Samsung link didn't link to a drive for me.

Remove the last screw on the SSd caddy to the left of the RAM, slide it to the left, remove it, unscrew the HDD, screw your HDD in, put it back in, screw it in place and Profit!

I would just check whether you are limited to a 7 mm height drive or the standard 9.5 mm.

    Hi guys,

I bought the Samsung 120 GB EVO 840 and installed it. It was a simple swap indeed. Now I'm reading about SSD (optimization and configuration).

    Unfortunately I couldn't afford a large drive.

    Hi again,

Can you help me taking a look in the photos below to tell me if is possible te remove this "optical drive" (because this laptop hasn't one) and install the HDD that I removed to install the SSD?

To remove it should be no problem - I would be worried if the actual power and data connection cables were actually installed though and available.

Again; physically you could probably put one in... but use it? Not without the cables or some magic. :O

Of course, I was just j/k...

What I'd be worried about is being able to connect the cables to the M/B properly though; is the notebook hard to take apart?

    Hi again,

I just opened the place where should stay my optical drive (remembering, this laptop has not any optical drive). Fortunately, the sata conectores are there!
So, until I understand, I can buy a caddy drive and install the HDD that I removed from this Acer, right?

Sorry for the quality. But the satas are on the right.

Edit : A caddy drive 9.5 mm works fine with this Acer.
