    im looking to buy a single 2gb stick of ram for my dell 1520 and so far i have come up with;

    2GB, 200-pin SODIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 memory module for £73 @ crucial

    does anyone know of a cheaper place to buy?

    Have a look at Overclockers UK, and dabs.com. Both are good retailers.

    Just to note, if you don't already have a 2GB module, you wont have the benefits synchronous RAM configuration.

    Maybe this Kingston module at ebuyer?

    The benefits of dual channel RAM operation in notebooks are overstated. There maybe around 10% speed boost. The general view is that 3GB (the approximate limit that 32bit Windows can address) gives better overall performance than 2GB. If you can afford 4GB then the RAM will run a bit faster but you will still have the ~3GB addressing limit.
