I purchased a new power adapter for my laptop as the old was beat up. It was a cheapo china unit from eBay, but the specs are the exact same. I tested it briefly, running the laptop for a half hour or so.
Tonight I ran it for 2 hours or so, but at one point while idling it just shut off. The laptop has never over heated and I know the fan is clean and working. I tried to turn it back on immediately with my old adapter: Nothing. Different battery: Nothing. Waited a few min: Nothing. Opened it up and checked all the connections. Then it booted... Still running on my old adapter.
The new adapter was veery hot to touch and closer to the jack (opposite of the cpu+gpu) of the laptop was also unusually hot.. SO... wondering if poorly built adapters can deliver voltage incorrect enough to cause overheating or other problems. Never heard of it myself, but it seems possible.

Also must note, it has never shut down before.
