I recently bought a 2.5'' SATA to USB 2.0 hard drive enclosure from meritline, and it didn't even fit my Toshiba 160GB MK1653GSX SATA 2.5" Notebook Hard Drive and on top of that it doesn't even work when I plug everything in! Can you guys recommend a very cheap and reliable 2.5'' hard drive enclosure that I can take around? I would like no power supply (runs off USB power).

Again this is my hard drive:

Toshiba 160GB MK1653GSX SATA 2.5" Notebook Hard Drive at 5400 RPM.

    Thanks a bunch.

You could try the Omata SATA USB 2.0 2.5" HDD Enclosure.
There's either only USB 2.0, or one with USB 2.0 and eSATA. I have one with the eSATA connection, but too bad my M1530 doesn't have an eSATA port. Try searching for it on eBay.
BTW shouldn't all HDD enclosures for 2.5" HDD fit anyway?

I don't know what the deal is with the meritline one. My hard drive is thicker than the allotted space.

Do you have any other alternatives? The Omata are from the UK and I'm looking for something in the US because I need to get it soon.

when you plugged everything up did you go into disk management to see if it even recongnized the drive?

when i hooked mine up it didnt show up in my computer but it showed up in disk management, just had to do a format (it was a new drive) and came up right after. as for the fitment issue, 2.5inch hdd come in two thicknesses and i dont know if yours applies to this, but is the toshiba the 9mm or the 7.5mm? (i think those are the two thicknesses)

I checked for it. I had already formatted it connected straight to my desktop mobo. The biggest problem was it didn't even fit so that was a no go. I just went with the Rosewill I guess.

    Get. The. Rosewill.

You will not regret it. I have 2 of them, my father has about 14 of them (he uses them for client files) and they are the most reliable little enclosures evar. Well worth the price.

    9,5mm is all standard 2.5" HDD's.
And there are thicker ones also 12.5 or 13.5mm if i recall correctly.
Then there is 15mm thockness of the velociraptor, though that 2.5" sata hdd doesn't work in a laptop or USB-enclosure anyways.
