Hi there, just wanted someone to check over the spec I have proposed for my new laptop. I will be mainly using the laptop for internet browsing, word processing etc. but will also need to run intensive programs such as Autocad and Photoshop. I’m on a very tight budget of around £550 so I need to source the best deals. At the minute I plan on speccing out a barebones laptop...
    Barebone Mitac Laptop 8252DS 15.4" Wide Santa Rosa Socket P FCPGA6 8600MGS 512MB: £301 http://www.pcnextday.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?ProductCode=3310-5343&GroupCode=CSBBL
    Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 Mobile 2.0GHz 667MHz OEM CPU 2MB Cache Socket P FCPGA6: £80.46
    http://www.pcnextday.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?ProductCode=1122-3230&GroupCode=COREM
    4GB kit (2GBx2), 200-pin SODIMM, DDR2 PC2-6400 memory module: £51.69 http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=CT2KIT25664AC800
Unsure of which PCI mini wireless card to go for, want to be as cheap as possible but hopefully have wireless “n” connection as an option
Will use current HDD until I see some more reviews on SSD’s and also use current DVD drive.
I have a copy of Windows Vista Ultimate for 64bit so will be running that.
Also will the barebones be compatible with Intel turbo memory and would it be a worthwhile purchase?
That leaves me with £116.85 for a HDD a PCI mini wireless card and possibly a turbo memory card.
Have I chosen the best combination of components for my budget or could someone recommend a different combination (bearing in mind I can’t go over £550)?

good spec but a bit expensive and powerful for what you're planning to use it for, no?

Tbh I can't build anything for less and if I spend less for an off the shelf model I am going to get absolutely nothing for money, not a machine which will last at least 2 years?

dan, you should check out the buy and sell section. There have been really good deals the past few weeks, and you can get a faster used system in your price range as long as the seller can ship to Europe.

    You could checkout this T8300.

Also Intel 4965AGNs are cheap on ebay. You can get one for about less than £10.

You can also checkout the 7200.3....

Turbo Memory - Not Worth It.

Or you could check out this Acer Aspire 5930G.

Just seen the T8300 and the seagate, both look like great deals! I think the buy and sell section looks like a decent option as well. Will keep an eye out.

I mean you can get a better ready made system. Two years ago their was an article in COSTUM PC comparing the cost of a barebook and an of the shelf laptop and the price between the two was about the same. The problem faced by the reviewer was that they had a limited choice on the chassi used and on the component they were able to use.

Dell D830 (with the difference in price you could up the RAM)

besides the fact every laptop listed has a lower spec for similar/more money than i have proposed the barebones. Ideally i'm after an intel processor as well... cheers for the suggestions though
