While I realize these are not brand new chip sets, I am looking at a couple of Toshiba's, one with each of the above chipsets. My question, even after reading a lot of articles is has any one noticed any performance difference in these?

    The 2 laptops are P500-BT2G23 - i7-740, HM55, GT330m w/1GB GDDR3

    and

    X505-Q894 - i7-740, PM55, GTX460m w/1.5GB GDDR5

Both with 500GB HD and 4GB ram. I do main video editing and some gaming.

    Thanks for your opinions!

    Jeff

Chipsets aren't much different other than the PM55 supports RAID configs while the HM55 does not.

The biggest difference is the GT 330M vs the GTX 460M...GTX 460M is a much better GPU.

HM55 supports IGP, PM55 does not, so Optimus could possibly be an option on an HM55 chipset laptop.

Both systems he's specced are using an i7-740QM with no IGP.

Seems the X505-Q894 BIOS doesn't support RAID, so no chipset has an advantage. The OP should post for what he will use the notebook.
Edit: Saw primary for Video editing and some gaming, so it depends on the games he plays and the price.

the X505 is way better but what screen does it have? If its not full HD , i wouldn't get it.. look at Asus G73 also.. Its is as good as X505.
