I need to replace the damaged hard disk on my laptop (The HP in signature) ad I'm wondering about could be the right product for me.
I don't need huge size nor "extreme" performance but rather an affordable and "silent" hard disk, if possibile.
SSD have to be excluded for a budget issue.
Could You give me some opionions about 500 gb internal SATA from Hitachi or Western Digital ?
For a notebook is in any case preferable to get a 7200rpm hard disk ora 5400 rpm could be the right thing if I aim to have a cooler system ?
thks

What is your budget and i'd go for a 7200RPM drive regardless. Personally, i'd go for a Momentus XT 750GB is your budget permits (for the 8GB SSD cache more than the extra 250GB over the XT 500GB).

Talking about modern drives, 7200RPM and 5400RPM feel the same for relatively similar capacities. Even with different capacities and generations, there's not as much difference as is told (for large, continuous file transfers). My WD3200EVT (WD Scorpio Blue 320GB from ~2009) and Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500GB are only a few MB/s apart for that situation. Yet again, all HDDs now feel slow for me due to SSDs
Anyway, Western Digital and Seagate are two brands you can count on. Compare prices between online retailers and buy what's in your budget (or less).
