Lets have a discussion on the merits of the Chromecast dongle that was recently announced. This is essentially a wireless HDMI connection to an external display. Another technology known as WIFI 802.11 AD is supposed to be introduced this year and can achieve this and more. Furthermore, WIFI AD is an industry standard and backed by many influencial technology companies (interestingly, Apple is not one of them).
So, I do not really understand the merits of Chromecast. Surely, it would be better for everybody to adopt the same standards on something so fundamental.

Wifi ad or wigig is seen on the new dell wireless dock, i think it use the displaylink chipset, which is used in usb3.0 docks.
Notebookcheck did a review on it and you can see the numbers(bandwidth vs range) . -
it can't be used from gaming apparently people have already looked into but, it's for video/audio only because it employs buffering.
