Hi i have a hp laptop and i've noticed the fan is probablly dusty because it seems to get hot quicker. So i'm wondering if i have to open the laptop up and use an aircompresser to blow away the dust or if i can just blow the dust away from the outside where the fan is

    i have a dv2500 series laptop. Thanks

If you stick a toothpick into the fan vent, the fan will stay stationary. Then spray the air compressor nozzle into the air vent, and the dust will blow out of the heatsink and fan. This way, you do not have to take anything apart
Just make sure not to use a lot of pressure, or you could damage your components. I would say 50psi is more than enough pressure to remove any dust.

The toothpick prevents the fan from spinning. It allows for the dust to blow off of the blades.
If you do not use a toothpick, the fan will spin, and the dust will not come off of it

This will not void your warranty

It can also seize the fan due to the high RPM that the blades will spin due to the speed of the compressed air.
