I was wondering if there is a way to reformat my desktop's harddrive from my laptop? I am wanting to sell the harddrive from my desktop because the cpu fried, but don't know how to clear the data using my laptop(if that is possible).

Also, does anybody know how much a Geforce 6800 Ultra pci-e goes for?

Sorry for the desktop questions :/

You can put your desktop hard drive in an enclosure and attach to the laptop.Or boot the desktop from CD to format it.

Simply formatting your hard drive isn't sufficient to delete data before selling a drive. To securely delete the data you will need to use a program such as DBAN: ( http://dban.sourceforge.net/ ). The above posters are correct you will need either a USB adapter for the drive or a drive enclosure.

if was written on...it can be recovered...save the drive...never know when you might need it...i have scads of old small IDE drives that i use with my laptop with an IDE to USB converter...handy for doing backups...the only way to keep "dirty little secrets from being found on a drive...bank numbers, credit card numbers...etc...etc...is a device called a metal sheader...or as us commoners call smoke wrench...acetylene torch"...

DBAN will destroy the data beyond normal means of recovery. Most common hackers don't have access to methods advanced enough to recover a drive after it has been properly wiped with DBAN.

Unless you have something on the drive that will raise the FBI's eyebrow, DBAN will be sufficient rather than saving the drive for the rest of your life.
