How do you tell if a GPU is compatible with the Clevo Embedded Controller? I've read around and some cards can be quite a pain in a clevo haha. I'm just curious if there's a way to tell before throwing it in.

As long they are not AMD polaris/vega or older kepler dell cards you mostly should be fine. Also be careful when upgrading to apscal since you need eDP panel for it to run or an optimus PC with a eDP to LVDS converter.

It varies depending on the generation of both card and chassis but in recent times very few mxm cards other than Clevo or MSI are able to be used in a Clevo machine
The igpu in an optimus config IS the eDP to LVDS converter, its not a separate thing (the only exception I'm aware of is the MSI GT8x models) -
Nope you're wrong. I digged a bit into this and noticed that the P157SM for instance has a dedicated chip do convert that.
You can check out the schematic of the P157SM (or any P15x P17xSM) and you'll see the nift little chip PS8625 which does the eDP -> LVDS translation.Last edited by a moderator: Jul 13, 2018 -

Ah, either way. Picked up a cheap GTX 1070 Zotac MXM 3.0b. Will have to see if I can get it chugging in a Clevo. Otherwise I may be purchasing a mini Zotac box xD

ok you're right - for after Intel dropped native LVDS from the package with haswell igpu of which I am now aware
I think you'll be the first to get the zotac working in a clevo if you do

posting your model info would help the help be more specificInOrderToSignIn likes this. -
I might be wrong, but isn't the zotac GTX 1070 the gecube card?

Idk. But I’m going to follow the process done by the Alienware dudes, and hope for the best.
