    Hi,

So I have a Clevo M570TU currently with 4gb or Ram.
I found out that the motherboard supports 64bit windows, so I was planning to upgrade windows and get 8gb or RAM.

I contacted Crucial and they said this clevo model doesn't support 2 sticks of 4gb... is this true? Does this means that there is no way I can get 8gb of ram running on my laptop?

Apart from this memory issue with more heavy applications like Zbrush and Mental Ray all is working perfectly fine...

Here are some more details about it:
    CLEVO M570TU
    TFT 17'' WUXGA GT 1920X1200
    Nvidia 9800GTS (512MB DDR3)
    INTEL CORE 2 EXTREME X9100 3,06GHZ 6MB Cache
    4GB DDR3 1066 OCZ Technology
    HD 320GB 7200RPM SATAII 16MB
    DVDRW DL SATA
    INTEL 5300 A/G/N WLAN
    BLUETOOTH 2.0 + EDR
    FINGERPRINT

I would say yes, you can put 8GB's in there because it has the Intel 45 chipset.

Considering that your model was released over 2 1/2 years ago, I would take the 'recommended' maximum of 4GB with a grain of salt.

It may really be limited to 4GB with a BIOS restriction or other custom Motherboard setting, but what I would do is:

Buy two 4GB sticks of RAM that are as closely matched with your current memory (use cpu-z to find that out without taking the machine apart). Make sure you buy with a 100% return policy with no restocking fee - and don't tell them what machine you're buying it for. ;)

    Then:

Install both 4GB modules and with any luck (and assuming you've updated the BIOS to the most current/stable version) your system should simply boot right up with 8GB RAM.

    If that doesn't work:

Install a single 4GB stick by itself (and try both memory slots too) and see if it will boot/recognize that by itself.

If it does, then try adding an original 2GB stick - this combination will still offer you a great memory increase (6GB total) and might be your only option.

Finally, if the single 4GB stick plus the 2GB stick don't work in your system, you should return the RAM for a full refund. (And others here will know that this Clevo model really is limited to 4GB RAM).

Keep in mind that I'm assuming you're running Windows 7 x64 bit, correct? :)

When you're switching the RAM modules around; make sure you unplug the machine from the power adaptor and also remove the battery too - don't want you to fry the motherboard with these 'experiments'.

    Good luck.

Thanks! That gives me some hope
Gonna check my ram as soon as I get home!

At the moment i have windows 7 x86. I'll format the laptop, update bios and do a clean install of 64 bit windows 7 before placing the 8GB.

Kinda related, can I update the bios while I have windows 7 32 bit? it should be the same right?

Here are the results from CPU-z
    [IMG]

What RAM should I select now? I'm a bit unexperienced on this...

Also this was the reply I got from Crucial when I asked about buying more RAM for hte laptop

"Thank you for contacting us. Your system has 2 memory slots. Each slot will support up to 2GBs of memory, for a maximum of 4GBs. Your system is also a Dual Channel system. Dual-channel refers to computer motherboards that handle memory processing more efficiently by using the bandwidth of two memory modules. Most dual-channel systems will operate without matched memory module pairs installed, but dual-channel systems perform best when memory modules are installed in matched pairs. With your systems current specifications you are already at you maximum for memory."

    AA cool, thanks, nice find
    [IMG]

I found in Newegg these 3 with the settings of that website, so I guess it should be safe to order? Which one of the brands should I go for?

When doing a comparison between the three, the GSKILL model has Dual Channel Kit and has a much higher rating than the other 2, should I go for it?

Also, about updating the bios, anything I should be aware?
Thank you so much for the help so far, you guys make this process so easy and simple!

Any of them should work fine, although I'd probably go with the G.Skill or Mushkin because those are better known brands. Wintec seems pretty new, I haven't heard much about them, so I'd be a little less sure of their warranty if anything happened.

I have the G.Skill and works great. I've used G.Skill a lot in the past and never had any issues.

I know that this is an old thread, but I found it a week or so ago when I was researching the possibility of a RAM upgrade for my aging (Aug 2009) Clevo M570TU laptop. After reading this thread, I went ahead and got an 8GB RAM kit from Crucial (2x 4GB DDR3 1066 SODIMM modules from amazon.com).

I am happy to report that the machine booted up with no problems using 8 GB. I am running Windows 7 64-bit on a brand-new SSD (I decided to upgrade the HD to an SSD at approximately the same time). The SSD makes a huge difference in this laptop- makes almost all operations seem much faster. But I think the extra RAM will help also, especially with my larger apps (DAW apps: Avid Pro Tools, Ableton Live).

By the way, on Amazon, this RAM kit is labeled "Mac" RAM, but I figured that since the specs are correct for the M570TU, it shouldn't have a problem, and apparently, I was correct in my assumption.

So now I'm wondering if 8GB is really the max recognized memory for this laptop- perhaps someone could try 2x 8GB modules for 16GB total and report in this thread. :)

db91977, 2x4GB is the limit, no way around it.

What's interesting, though, is that we were told by the manufacturer that 4 GB was the maximum RAM for this laptop! And it turns out that it can run 8, no problem.
