Hello all! I recently purchased a Clevo P750DM-G that I want to use for some modern gaming. I say want because the gpu is dead on the machine. I've dealt with a 860m gpu in the past so I understand what kind of performance I should be looking to get on this machine.
I want to replace it with another 980m, but honestly I'm having a hard time deciphering what are the differences between different cards/types that each manufacture uses. For example can I use a gigabtye 980m?
Also, where else should I look to find one aside from eBay? I went through the reseller list and couldn't find any that weren't outrageously priced like from eurocom directly.

Thanks for any help that anyone can provided! Tried my best to use these forums as a tool before I made this post but I'm sure that I overlooked some important posts.

I don't know much but i probably think you should buy CLEVO gpu. Not asus or other brand. And i assume gtx860m has mxm 3.0b interface so in succesfully upgraded laptop gpus post it says latest mxm 3.0b is gtx980m if i am not mistaken. So gtx980m is highest possible upgrade? I think pascal gpus don't have mxm 3.0b interface or won't work with 4th generation intel cpus. I hope someone with experience will help.

Apologies for the confusion, when I mentioned the 860m I meant I have used it in another laptop (a lenovo y50) so I understand about what levels of gaming performance I would experience with a 980m since I did mention I wanted to play modern games on this system as I am aware titles like fallout and CoD would be out of reach. :)

980m can play CoD and Fallout, you wont go ultra max super duper, but medium/high plays just fine..

They're available on eBay for ~$328USD new: https://www.ebay.com/itm/GTX980M-Gr...=item1cc0ef319d:g:vsUAAOSwtvZb8Aq1:rk:12:pf:0

That's about as good as it is going to get price wise for a 980m new.

What laptop specs are you running that Fallout 76 is giving you problems with a 980m?

a gtx1060 was successfully used in a p750dm-g, and there is a dedicated thread for that

    Thank you for the insight.
Thank you for your reply, but I was hoping for some more information as to how to discern between cards myself vs just going with whatever results pop up for clevo 980m. Maybe a list of all cards that use mxm 3.0b, for example my curiosity of gigabyte's 980m.
Thank you for your post, and both of these were the very first posts I looked into when I inquired about purchasing this device. However, the driver incompatibility thread was left to dust by the initial poster after they resolved their issue and your mega thread diving into successful upgrades did not provide the breakdown I was hoping to find, for example you mention the clevo gtx1060 using mxm 3.0 which I know some laptops do...but not this device.

    i7 6700k @4.20ghz 16gb DDR4 2400mhz 500gb 960EVO NVME [email protected] core

the game it's unplayable, at the first level of the game it's ok, but when u level up and go over level 50, u will need at least a rx580 or a gtx1060 ....
