Does anybody know if the x8100 has the same graphics cards heatsink as the x7200?

No, it doesn't. They're very different designs.

Looks like at the very least x8100 heatsinks could fit in the x7200

They look similar, but look around the edges at the fin end: They are different and won't fit. I went through this when I was going to buy an x8100 last year.

Thanks Johny and Niff, I was actually going to be going to an x8100 from an x7200 and was comparing heatsink pics but just couldn't seem to find the right answer. Guess I'll just have to mod the x8100 heatsinks > :)

The end can be cut to fit though (I've done this when installing x8100 heatsink in D901C)

However, X7200 heatsinks are thicker than X8100 ones.

It is likely that you wouldn't be able to close the back plate when installing X72 heatsink in X81.
