Often, when ever I use the Ipod-like volume control on my laptop's surface, I get this clicking noise that persists throughout the entire session that I'm on my laptop. Is this a known error for my laptop? I haven't found a way to get it to stop making that clicking noise other than to restart the computer.

It's probably the bundled HP software that comes with the computer. I'm not sure which program it is, but I know one of the startup programs makes that click. Maybe wait for someone who knows the exact name of the program. You can disable startup programs by clicking start, then in the search box type msconfig and hit enter. Then go to the startup tab. Once you learn what program does it, you can go disable it. BE CAREFUL what you disable, and don't disable things you don't know.

This would have been better in the HP forums. Anyway some people have been having this problem, including me. This is happening on the dv5t. When this happens, check your volume (in the bottom right), is it going up and down a lot? If so, that's what causing the clicking noise because whenever the volume is changed it makes that "clicking noise". Also, check if you can change the volume with the quicktouch, if it changes but then shoots back down, then i experienced the same problem. Anyway, people were told to update their drivers, but really, I didn't do that. People think it might be heat related, i'm not sure. It's only happened to me once and it was happening while i was gaming on my bed, so it might be heat related. What happened to me: I stopped playing. It was persisting so I was messing around with the other buttons, seeing if they would work with iTunes. They didn't for a minute or so, then they did and the volume clicking stopped.

It might very well be related to a heat issue, I don't remember if I played on my bed again but that only happened to me once. Now I have a new laptop with a lower processor, undervolted, on a hard surface, and with a cooler, so no heat issue for me.

I'm sure that my laptop has the same problem that yours had. What sucks about my laptop is that it seems to be overheating all the time.

I just purchased a DV5-1000US and the same thing keeps happening with mine, I d/l the new quicklaunch drivers but it keeps happening sporadically. Ras, how much did your laptop cost if you don't mind me askin?
