I just bought a Toshiba Laptop with an Intel Centrino Duo 2 GHZ processor.
As it is a duo what speed does the processor run at? Is it 4 ghz or less? A link for it is down below.

Also is this a 64 bit Processor?
I bought it with XP as I don't want Vista yet!![]()

Its a 64-bit processor, running at 2 GHz.

Yes, your Core 2 Duo T7200 processor is 64-bit, although it is somehwat useless, until 64-bit programs are made available on the consumer market. The processor runs at 2 GHz. Dual core means that is acts as though it has two processors, but at the moment, the total speed is not just the clockspeed times two. Most programs at the moment are single threaded, which means that only one processor core can do the tasks that it requires. That leaves the other nothing to do (except a few backgorund tasks here and there).
Multithreaded applications, like some games and an incresing number of other software, use both cores, so there is a speed gain. However it is not double the speed, because other tasks have to be completed by the processor, so the overall main task is slowed down a little but it is completed much faster than if one core was working on it. -
Thanks for the reply. If I was to try and run a game that the minimum requirements was 2.4 ghz would it still work? or would I have problems? -
No, you should have no problem with any modern game. Most of the games give their processor speed rating, based on the Pentium 4, which was inefficient and hot. Core 2 Duo is based on a totally different core, and it much more efficient, and can do alot more processing in a given time that Pentium 4 ever could. Therefore, it doesn't require a high clock speed.
Gaming is more dependant on the graphics card, rather than the processor. If you have a very fast processor, and a lot graphics card, it will not game as well as a system which has a fast graphics card, and a somewhat slow processor. Your notebook has both a fast prcessor and a very capable and fast graphics card, so theres ample power to play the latest games. -
