I purchased a new WD 250Gb 5400rpm ATA-6 and it is now ion ts way. I also purchsed an enclosre for the clonig process.
Many have suggested using software such as Acronis TrueImge 11, Paramount Disk Mananger, or Norton Ghost.
Acornis and Paragon offer 30 day trial downloads. Does that mean that I could download it, clone my HD, unistall it and swap them?

I believe the Paragon Drive Backup Personal is a 30 day trial with all features available, it can also Clone to a new drive.

I used the "Acronis" trial to clone then bought it at a later date when I could afford it. I have used it several times since. In short, yes you can!!!
Clone away.... -
Thanks to all of you. I cannot believe how easy that was.
The HDD that I swapped out into the external enclosure powers off my notebook USB. I would like to use this external drive for media on the go.
I assume I could clone the clone that is in my notebook to an older external 3.5 HDD and keep that as my back up.
Cloning HD question.
