I have the Eversham Voyager 720DC Plus. Its the same chassis as the Clevo-570U afaik.
I want to use it to replace my old crappy DVD player, but I dont want to have the laptop case open when I play DVD's on it - because I connect the laptop to a much bigger LCD screen (22" Viewsonic).
Is there any way I can play DVDs on my laptop onto this viewsonic LCD screen while having the laptop closed? The laptop can certainly play audio CDs while the lid is closed, that's why the Clevo chassis is set-up like it is...
Thanks,
Petrov.

In windows power settings (or a third party manufacturer software if there is one) you should be able to tell the laptop not to do anything when the lid is closed. As long as you have an external mouse to control your DVD, that should work well.
That's right click on the dekstop, select properties, screensaver tab and click the power button on the bottom right. -
Ok, that's a great tip, thanks. But that still means I have to load the DVD up with the laptop on.
An even better outcome would be that I can load the DVD and play it on the screen without actually loading up win xp (just like you can do with audio CDs on this chassis)?
Does that make sense? Thanks again for your help.

I don't think that would be possible without loading some form of Linux based Media Centre software as a dual boot.

jess_paws is right, you would have to boot the laptop up in some fashion to play a DVD and watch via TV. That's a nice thought for a future feature in laptops though.

It strikes me as odd that you can do it for Audio CDs and not for DVDs... i guess the fact that you have to pipe it through the DVI-out port probably makes it more complicated, but the concept is the same.
