I have a Voodoo Envy M360, based on the Compal CL-56
I knew it had a bad graphics card, so I bought a new one for it. It cost me $40

I installed the graphics card and I can feel it getting warm, but my laptop is not turning on.
I have 2 x 512mb PC2700 Crucial memory, 100Gb 7200rpm PATA Seagate 7200.1, and the Pentium M 2Ghz processor
When I press the power button, the backlight of the screen comes on, and the harddrive LED is bright green. (The harddrive does not spin up, and nothing comes up on the internal screen)
The processor fan comes on for about 10 seconds upon startup, and shuts off.
The processor heatsink does not get hot.
The processor does work, I tested it just before i put the new graphics card in.
The left most light on the palmrest comes on (power LED), The middle light flashes (battery charging), the third light for wireless doesnt come on.
The battery does charge, it is at 100%
I find it odd that the battery charges but the board is still not working
Here is a picture of the LED's

It doesnt successfully power on, I made sure everything is connected properly.
I tried booting without the harddrive, optical drive, and wireless, and still nothing
Is the motherboard possibly dead?

I am going to bump this up now that it has been moved to the hardware section.
I would like to include that I did try powering it on with the J1 Jumper connected. It did not help. My System still does not boot
I have it currently outside of the shell. The graphics core definitely gets hot. It burns your finger after about 10 seconds. The backlight inverter comes on, but no activity.
The processor does not get warm at all. And I do not have the heatsink on
Any ideas?

Could the processor itself be dead? You said it didn't get warm. But I suppose a bad motherboard is the next best guess?
-
It could be possible, but the last time I used it, say 8 months ago I tested it in another system and it worked.
One guy mentioned online that removing the BIOS battery may work. It is soldered to the motherboard. It is one of those rechargeable button cells. I will try removing it, and discharging it when I find some time.

Take the 8 cell battery off of the notebook. Open up to the memory slots. There is a soldering point under one of the memory banks called J1 or J5. Connect the two parts of that with a flat headed screwdriver. That resets the BIOS.

I just tried that (Its the J1)
It must be the 4th or so time, I have taken the laptop apart to test this.
Mine isnt resetting. The screen just stays blank,
so it looks like a new motherboard is going to be needed

Not worth getting a new mobo for this old laptop.. time to retire it k-tron..

I want to get it working, so I can sell it
I have all of the original discs for it, xp, adobe, drivers, etc. I would be able to easily fetch $500 if it worked, not so much if it was dead

good luck finding a mobo for it... it's a 3-5 year old laptop... and even if u find one and it will be expensive... not worth the effort... time to sell it as scrap
Comapl CL-56 need some help
