My E1505 is only about 3 weeks old and the DVDRW/CDRW drive lost its ability to function. I don't have Internet access for the laptop at the moment and it is the only optical drive on the system so I could not use the driver CD. With this being the case I did the only thing I could think of. I performed a system restore to a retore point that I knew the laptop was functioning properly.
My worry is that it might get another error before I can establish Internet access.
Is there a less drastic procedure that I can use to resolve this problem if it occurs again before I get the intetnet up and running?

All help in this matter will be greatly appreciated!

A few questions you need to elaborate on so we can help you:
1.) What ability of the drive lost function (reading ability or you can't get it to even work/spin a disc)?
2.) Does your drive function properly after you did your system restore?
3.) What error is it that you're worried about receiving before you can access the Internet?

I don't really follow what you're describing after your system restore.

System restores are undoable, so I'd just try it and if it doesn't help or does something you didn't want to happen just undo it.

The disk would spin but the drive would not recognize that a disk was there.
Yes, It is funtioning now that I did the system restore.
Don't remember what error code number it was but whatever it was it was preventing me the abililty to us CDs and DVDs.
It is possible that the driver was corrupt but if I don't have internet then I can't update a driver with a drive that does not work.
