    Hello all,

Concerning a Compal JHL 90 T9600 with XP Pro.

This is a new laptop. Not a newbie to desktop pc's but this is my first portable pc after all these years, and I am slightly green in this department.

    My question is:

While typing in the message body area of Outlook Express, I noticed that with out warning or error on my typing part what I typed went into a previously typed sentence. It would type correctly for a few words then it would go and type words in a previously typed sentence with out any warning. It does this all the time. The pc is on a very solid surface with no vibration. No mouse is connected. My hands are not touching the touch pad. Once I realized what was happening I made a careful effort to make sure I was typing correctly (two finger typer) and was not touching the touch pad and it kept putting words on different line that had already been typed. It was all over the place. Took a lot of time to correct all of the mistakes.

I contacted the pc seller's tech support and was told that this issue was common and and known and that it was doing this because of the close position of the touch pad to the keyboard.

I checked at the local store that sells laptops and tried almost a dozen laptops out and not one of them did this. To me it didn't sound like a common issue.

I sent the pc back for a full refund because time was running out with being able to do that. I felt that the pc was defective because of this and the fact that the CD/DVD/RW drive was very noisy and vibrated so bad my desk was vibrating with it.

Your comments on this issue are appreciated. Thanks all..........

    to solve this problem here are a couple options;

    1) stop bumping your touchpad.

    and/or

    2) reduce the sensitivity of your touchpad in the driver software.

    3) alternately, you could attach a keyboard and mouse and use that to solve the problem as well...

i had this same problem with my first laptop. i have gotten used to it now and it doesn't bother me.

don't make multiple identical threads, please. the admins don't dig that.

you sent a laptop BACK for that!!!??? this issue is easily solved, i'm surprised
somebody from support didn't tell you how FIX it. weird.

To solve a similar issue on my IFL90 I turned tap clicking off on my touchpad (since I never use tap clicking) and it hasn't happened since.

It was brutally annoying at the time though....

This was a brand new $2000 pc. It had a bad CD/DVD/RW drive along with the typing deal. Tech support told me it is a known problem and all laptops do this. Well I found that not to be exactly correct, because of the many I tried none of them did this including a $349. Acer which was fine. So I sent it back. Keep in mind that once I realized there was a problem typing, I took steps to make sure it was on a solid base, like my granite kitchen countertop, and I made sure I was not near the touch pad, as I use two fingers to type, and it still did it. I think the condition I had was beyond normal IMO.
