Hello Everyone..... Long time reader first time caller![]()
I have a Compaq 2110US (Athlon XP-M 2000+/512DDR/40Gig) and was thinking about upgrading the cpu since the case fan is rapidly dying and since I have it open and mobil athlon prices are dirt cheap.... I figure why not...
Here is my big question... After looking up the part number for the MOBO I see that the part number 319612-001 is the same for several compaq/hp notebooks... that is standard however what confuses me is that the 2110US supports a max cpu of the one i currently have however other machines with the same mobo 2198/2178 etc all support CPU's up to 2500+ Barton chips with a 1.45V core.
So popping in the XP-M 2500+ in there should be ok .... yes/no ??? If they all share the same part number for the mobo ...... and I have seen "custom" presarios advertised with significantly faster chips then the base or what I currently have. Aside from a possible BIOS lockin to max the mobo out at a 2000+? In which case a bios flash/RomPack for a 2198 should work... right? lol
The "common" mobo among all these supports 1.45v, 266fsb.
Anyone with experience with these compaq 21xx series or HPze4XXX series PLEASE chime in.
Thanks
Chris
