So, as you can tell, i have a Compaq Presario 2100 that I got a few years back from my parents. About half a year ago, my CD/RW drive "died" (wouldnt burn/read) on me. So what, i said to myself, i hardly used the thing anyways (flash drives and usb port media players). But as of recently, i found a few game isos that i had ripped onto my computer a few years back, and noticed that they are taking up a lot of space on my computer. That was the perfect time to buy a new CD drive, for i have sold most of the games that i had ripped to my computer. So why not burn them to a CD? I went of and bought a Sony CD-RW/DVD drive online, installed (inserted and booted), but then i noticed that it didnt read. So heres the problem:

Will only read blank cd's when inserted.
Will only read cds/dvds from a cold start up (with them in)
Doesnt seem to write (tryed burning and iso on to a cd, it spun and sounded like it was burning, but when i took it out when it got done, the bottom looked untouched.)
I dont know if i should do anything with the BIOS or anything, cause i DARE not touch it unless i know what im doing (bad experiences)

ALSO (might as well throw in another thought while im here)
Is it possible to upgrade my processor? Im thinking of Pentium 4 (i have celeron 2.4Gz.)
and is it possible to use any other brand of processors? (AMD)

Change your laptop. I also had a problem with Compaq Presario 2100 before I bought a new one
