Hi, I am running on a Compaq Presario CQ50 with Chipset GL40.

Current CPU is Celeron 575 (intolerable.)
MOBO FSB rating is 667 Mhz, but according to this thread I read that really doesn't matter at all.

Anyways, After doing research, the motherboards manual is here:

The socket is PPGA478. I would like to upgrade to a T7800. I am not sure if this works because the above thread doesn't talk about the T7xxx series much for some reason. Please let me know what you think or if any more information is needed.

How much do you remember from eight plus years ago?

A cursory search reveal the CQ50 came with a Pentium T3200. That's probably a good bet for something that'll work. Another educated guess would be anything with 667MHz FSB has a chance of working, but I don't know much about HPs. The T7800, in my experience, is unlikely to work due to the incompatible FSB speed.

@boredherobrine13 since the topic says anything 800MHz FSB will work, it should work. I strongly suggest flashing latest BIOS; killing CMOS simultaneously with switching CPU won't hurt. But I'd get T9300 - it's cheaper and has more cache.
